The Story of the Unique Sheep

If you’ve got kids you want to introduce to the homesteading life — with an emphasis on fiber arts — then check out The Story of the Unique Sheep, by Dianne and Laura Lough.

This beautifully illustrated children’s book examines life on a farmstead from a sheep’s eye view.

Synopsis:

The Story of the Unique Sheep explores the life of Elizabeth, the Shetland Sheep. She’s surrounded by all the sites and animals of a farmstead, including bees, pigs and other Sheep. She becomes obsessed with changing her pure white coat to a more interesting color. So she finds some dyed, drying skeins and hijinks ensue.

The book is colorful — beautiful illustrations draw readers into the story, while the poetic nature of the writer’s prose presents parents and teachers — and homeschooling parents too — with a chance to introduce colors, basic reading skills and reading comprehension.

Knitting!

In addition, the book includes knitting patterns. So if your children are so inclined, you can put them on a little art assignment as well. If not, the patterns are lovely and illustrated with full color images of the finished products.
